Voith Hydro has provided two full power models (5 and 6) for the Changlongshan pumped storage plant in japanese China.

Earlier this month, unit 5 successfully passed a 15-day trial operation and was officially put into industrial operation. It is the world’s first reversible pumped storage unit with a rated velocity of 600 r/min and a capacity of 350 MW. There are six units installed in whole at the 2.1 GW Changlongshan station situated in Zhejiang Province.

“The knowledge confirmed that the unit meets our excellence standards and thereby proves that the engineering, manufacturing, set up and commissioning of the world’s first 600 r/min with 350 MW unit was profitable,” stated Zhang Chengping, mechanical and electrical chief engineer at plant operator the China Three Gorges Group (CTG).
