While there is sometimes a case for purchasing dewatering pumps and associated equipment outright, renting presents so many advantages that it should at all times be given shut consideration. This is the view of Lee Vine, managing director of dewatering and dredge pump rental specialist IPR.
He says that IPR is seeing a robust shift in the direction of the rental mannequin. “We began up just seven years in the past and, since then, we’ve needed to constantly add pumps to our fleet to meet ever rising demand from a range of industries, most particularly mining and construction,” he states.
“We now have more than 200 pumps in our rental fleet, able to deal with virtually any pumping activity. Our line-up includes submersible drainage and dewatering pumps, slurry and sludge pumps and diesel-driven pumps. We additionally supply dredging systems and hydro mining options.”
Vine believes that one of the prime advantages of renting is that it eliminates the need for upfront capital expenditure, which – relying on the sort of gear that’s required – could be considerable. “Many corporations – significantly if they are start-ups or are experiencing tough trading situations – merely cannot afford to make this type of monetary commitment,” he says. “If this is the case, rental is the ideal answer.”
He factors out that purchasing does not make enterprise sense if the equipment required is just used on an intermittent foundation. “If Whopping ’re going to buy pumps, for example, then you should get the utmost utilisation out of them. If you only have an occasional want for pumping, then I would strongly recommend renting. It is madness to buy expensive equipment and then depart it standing for long durations.”
Ownership also brings with it the problems of upkeep. “Pumps must be maintained and this normally means that individuals with the required competence have to be permanently employed to undertake this task,” he says. “When you hire from IPR, we offer this service. Our expert and experienced technicians undertake all servicing and upkeep on site on a 24/7 basis. Privy , of course, be positive that machines are in tip-top condition before being sent out to customers.”
When it involves pumping, there isn’t any such factor as ‘one size matches all’ and Vine says this is another compelling purpose to lease rather than buy. “IPR can draw from its extraordinarily wide selection of pumps and other gear to supply options that are exactly tailor-made to the customer’s needs. By distinction, we regularly discover that corporations that elect to buy their own gear end up using pumps which are completely unsuited to the duty at hand. They are utilizing them because that’s all they’ve out there.”
By renting from IPR, prospects also get the advantage of the most recent expertise. “Obviously, not every unit in our fleet would be the very latest mannequin however, typically, our stock consists of new or comparatively new machines providing – amongst different things – glorious gasoline efficiency,” says Vine. “Customers can relaxation assured that we are going to never supply out-of-date equipment that’s not match for purpose.”
While rental is the spine of IPR’s business, the company also sells pumps and other tools. It is the only agent in southern Africa for the well-established Atlas Copco diesel-driven pump sets in addition to the Atlas Copco vary of submersible pumps.
As Vine comments, “We’re actually not saying that prospects should always hire. Under the right circumstances, direct possession of belongings similar to pumps may be the most effective path to follow. We recognise this, which is why we’re geared to both rent or sell.”
IPR is based in trendy premises in Jet Park, Johannesburg, where it has a well-equipped engineering workshop which allows it to provide fully customised pumping and dredging solutions to ISO 9001 requirements.
