Leaders of the Islamist insurgent group Barisan Revolusi Nasional Melayu Patani joined a peace dialogue panel in Phuket with the secretary-general of Thailand’s National Security Council, Wanlop Raksanoh, to discuss solutions to the non secular separatist insurgency by the Malaysian border.
The panel was held at Le Meridian Phuket Beach Resort and lasted from Saturday to Sunday. Also present at the panel was military commander Lieutenant General Kriangkai Srirak. The general reported that both sides are dedicated to finding peace, and have been determined to continue talks despite increased border restrictions because of Covid. Spoiler said both events were friendly with each other.
The panel focused on reducing violence, discussions with native people, and in search of an answer that may satisfy the wants of the individuals in the space. The next focus was making a framework to structure the dialogue based mostly on these three main issues. The final area of focus was on lowering violence in Thailand’s Deep South, the place Islamist separatist groups have often violently clashed with Thailand’s army. This violence heightened in 2004 when 7,000 folks were killed. General Wanlop stated additional peace talks are hoped to continue sooner or later..
